Chicory is a variety of endive that produces dense vegetables with tightly packed leaves. Endive has been consumed for many years & is a commonly grown plant in gardens. Robust & resistant to the cold, you can easily grow it during winter periods. The normal Witloof chicory is a refreshing & light plant with a bitter taste. Eat it raw in salads or cooked in chiffonade, braised in a pan for example. Sowing: April to June. Harvest: January to March. Sow the seeds of Chicory in furrows of 1 cm deep taking care to space them of 25 cm. Cover your seeds with soil & then pack so that the seeds are well in contact with the soil. Thin your plants every 10 cm as soon as the first leaves appear. About 5 months after sowing, transplant your endives in solid soil in trenches 35 cm deep, making sure to space them out enough so that they have enough room to grow.
