This handmade Smudge Fan has been created by myself using feathers from Pheasant & Peacock feathers. All feathers are feathers that have been dropped naturally (moulted) as the birds go through the seasons moulting. I’ve used a Driftwood as a handle. I’ve added blue Howlite beads & additional feathers to decorate. Each fan is unique as is the symbolism linked with the individual feathers used in making the smudging fans As a symbol across many cultures, feathers have always represented a connection to spiritual realms & to divinity. & because of their connection to birds, they have always been a symbol of flight & freedom, not just physically, but also in a mental or spiritual sense. Smudging is a ritual to cleanse or clear a person, a place or an object of negative energies, spirits or influences. It is a ritual of cleansing & purification for the physical & spiritual bodies to remove negative energy. Smudging is not strictly for use in cleansing & purifying, it can be used to draw in positive energies & as a means of creating smoke to carry our prayers up to the Great Spirit. The smudging ceremony involves the burning of special sacred plants, such as white sage, herbal resins or incense, then either passing an object through the resulting smoke, or fanning the smoke around a person or place. The spirit of the plant purifies whatever is being smudged. Remember that when you smudge you are asking the spirit of the sacred plants for assistance. We are entering into a relationship with the powers of these plants & with the spirits of a sacred ceremony. There are many herbs that you can use for smudging. Mugwort (Black Sage) can also be used & is sold within our shop. Smudging Fan, Pheasant & Peacock Feathers Smudge Wand, Pagan, Wiccan, Witch, Witchcraft, Shaman
