The bowl is decorated with lovely paintings of children, clad in kimono, playing traditional Japanese games. They are playing with a hagoita (battledore), a kami fusen (a paper balloon) & flying a kite (tako). The children’s attire is brightly colored in shades of red, green, blue & yellow & the kite soars cleverly into the inside of the bowl. Sprinklings of gold powder, interspersed between the happy children, make a nice highlight. The bowl’s smooth, rounded surface has a pleasing tactile feel. The light tea bowl fits nicely into both hands & the lip of the cup is just the right thickness for comfortably drinking tea. This chawan is in great vintage condition. The artist’s seal, Kokuryo Hisato, appears on the base of the bowl. It comes in it’s original wooden storage box which also has the artist’s name & the title of the piece, ‘Kodomo,’ (children) written on the lid. Enjoy drinking Japanese matcha tea in this lovely hand made bowl. The Japanese say that a tea bowl becomes more beautiful with use. The oil from the hands & the green of the matcha gradually seep into the bowl’s surface giving it a rich color & luster. Some tea ceremony teachers say a cheaper, frequently used bowl, can look even more beautiful than an expensive, rarely used chawan. - tea bowl measures 12 cm (4.7) across x 6.5 cm (2.5) tall. - box measures 14 cm (5.5) x 14 cm (5.5) x 9.5 cm (3.7). - weighs 400gm. to see the shikishi & other shikishi art boards & frames: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JapanDownUnder?ref=shop_sugg§ion_id=26130116 To see other tea bowls or other tea ceremony related items, click on this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JapanDownUnder?ref=shop_sugg§ion_id=26711081 SHIPPING INFORMATION - please read the shipping notes in our shop announcement.
