Offered for your consideration is this attractive vintage novelty powder compact dating circa 1940. This compact is in the form of a basket complete with hinged carry handle. It is made of brass covered in buttermilk enamel. The lid is further decorated with a scene featuring a courting couple in regency style clothing in a pastoral setting & signed Fragonard. The case has firm hinge & secure push in catch & opens to reveal a clear & reflective framed glass mirror under the lid. The powder well in the base is covered by a hinged inner powder well door which has machine turned pattern & central circular blank cartouche. The powder well beneath is empty. This charming figural powder compact is unusual & rare & is offered in good condition with no dents or dings to the case. There are no losses to the enamel surfaces or the picture on the lid. The brass metal has some normal age darkening which I haven’t polished. Thank you for your interest. Vintage Figural Novelty Basket Powder Compact With Fragonard Courting Couple Circa 1940
