Ceramic jars for the storage of jams & marmalade were common in the Victorian period, & continued to be so for until well into the 1920s. The outside of the jar would have had a paper label to identify the contents. The jars were regarded as disposable, & would invariably have been thrown away once the contents were used. They’re often to be found buried in former Victorian / Edwardian rubbish dumps. The jars have a ribbed outer surface. They are in good vintage condition, with suitable age & usage related markings. They’re lovely decorative pieces, when grouped with other vintage stoneware pieces. They’re equally practical, whether as a desk tidy for storing pens, or for holding dried flower arrangements.
