Here is a truly splendid early 1950s brass powder compact complete with its original sifter & powder puff. The top has a transfer floral design of pink & yellow roses & pale blue flat-petalled flowers (I can’t quite decide what they are all on a golden lacquered brass background. This is a normal sized compact, measuring just over 8cms in diameter (that’s just over 3) but still very flat - only 1cm thick (3/8th) I love this as it’s so utterly pretty, & so very 1950s - although this is unbranded, it’s a beautiful design, & a fabulous bit of retro 50s floral pattern. If you collect vintage powder compacts because of the beautiful designs, this is a bit of a corker !! CONDITION:- This compact has no real issues really - it still stays shut & opens easily with that satisfying click, the sifter is in very good condition, & it’s all clean. The one thing is that there is a bit of a spot on the mirror - see my last photo with the red arrows. I think probably this dates from the early 1950s, after WWII ended, as the use of brass indicates that metals were becoming available again. During the war, the early plastics such as Lucite & Bakelite were the materials of choice, as metals were all needed for munitions etc. This has been used of course, but has been cleaned out - there may be a little powder residue lurking down in the corners !!
