Vintage 1940's Stratton Pontoon Powder Compact Purse Vanity Storage Make Up Cosmetics

Stylish powder compact in the shape of a purse. Known as a ‘Pontoon’ & manufactured by Stratton in the late 1940’s. The Pontoon shape was advertised in a magazine in 1948. Gold tone case with horizontal line decoration to lid & base. The case is stamped Stratton, Made in England. Purse type clasp. Framed mirror. There are 2 patents numbers 562662 & 530653 which are stamped on the case below the mirror, & 530653 is also stamped on the inner flap powder well catch. The numbers relate to improvements in containers that carry powder & improvements in hinge & clasp mechanisms. Full inner lid. Complete with signed puff. Dimensions: 7.5cms x 6cms approximately. The compact is in good vintage condition, with minor age related wear. Gold tone case has a couple of feint marks to base. Inner flap has a small mark to the left side. Framed mirror has a couple of pin dot marks & a feint vertical line to the left side. Reflective image. Signed puff has remnants of powder. Clasp & hinge function as they should.
