This beautiful, dark navy denim vest is hand-embellished & mended with Sashiko stitching & cotton batik that has a gorgeous sunflower pattern. The Sashiko thread used is a heavy weight cotton thread which we hand-dyed with black tea leave to achieve a soft champagne color. The Sunflower Fields Denim Vest is lined with a stunning turquois & gold batik which has a gorgeous sun & sunray theme. This batik lining protects the reverse side of the Sashiko stitching underneath. This is an old school style vest with cut-off sleeves & frayed arm openings. Wear this gorgeous vest as is, with no shirt underneath, or with a T-shirt or blouse or even over a leather jacket to achieve a rockin’ 1980’s style. Sashiko is a type of mending that arose in the pre-industrial age of Japan when fabric was scarce & mending garments was a necessity. The Japanese people used this purposely visible technique of running stitches to create beautiful patterns. The pattern motifs were originally inspired by things in nature, & thus this Sunflower Fields Sashiko Vest features designs that were inspired by nature, namely the flower patterns.
