A wonderful Stratton Vintage Gold Tone Geometric Signed English Powder Compact / Make-up Mirror with a small cartouche on the front. The cartouche is blank. The gorgeous machine engineered design features vertical rows with two rows standing out from the rest. The back features concentric circles of stars. Closes with a satisfying snap. c 1950s. The clasp & hinge are working perfectly. The compact has a metal flap which opens sideways embossed with the Stratton Compact-in-Hand logo & says Stratton. The metal flap is closed with a clever little catch & opens to reveal mostly empty powder well, original powder puff, protective foam & powder sifter. The Compact-in-Hand mark indicates the compact has a self-opening inner lid. This was patented in 1948 & is unique to Stratton compacts. This convertible cosmetic powder compact is suitable for modern loose & pressed face powders. The inside rim around the mirror is etched with Made in England. The slim mirror compact diameter measures 7 cm (2 3/4 in) & is 7 mm (1/4 in) deep. The compact weighs 85 g (2.9 oz). The Stratton compact is in excellent vintage condition.
