Shichimi Togarashi (seven-flavour chili pepper) is an earthy, spicy, peppery blend of spices & is used as a common table seasoning in restaurants & homes across Japan. As with many spice blends, there are many versions, but we’ve created ours using: red chiles, orange peel, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sichuan peppercorns, nori flakes, ginger. It is an absolute must have if you’re a fan of Japanese noodle or soup dishes, such as ramen or udon, & can really liven up vegetables such as bok choi or broccoli stir fried in a smidge of sesame oil. This is one blend where you can get creative & start throwing it on everything from fried eggs & mac’n’cheese, to fish, & chicken. We’ve kept our spice level in check by using red chiles in the medium spectrum of heat & it’s nicely balanced by the mild nuttiness of the sesame seeds & and brightness of the ginger & citrus.
