We planted seed garlic last fall, hoed them in the winter, fed & watered this spring, & harvested early summer. All of the flowers have been started by seed in our greenhouse. They have been planted out in the garden, tended, & then harvested at the peak of color. These garlic braids are part of our simple, sustainable lifestyle. The practice of braiding garlic goes back hundreds of years. Garlic keeps better in braids. The bulbs are on their stems, preventing air (with potential mold) to get inside. A garlic bulb can be twisted or cut off when needed in the kitchen. When all of the garlic is used, the flower bunch will remain. Kept out of weather & direct sunlight, this arrangement should last years.
