R I P P L E Series Planter #13 - Wheel-thrown, agateware (marble) MINI -sized planter with drainage hole. Satin clear glaze inside & out. Product dimensions: approximately 2.5 (T) x 3 (W) . Planter HAS drainage hole. Perfect for a small succulent or a propagated plant that’s ready to pot up. This mini-sized planter has ribbons of robin’s egg blue, celeste green, & creamy white. The technique used to create this unique planter is called agateware (or neriage in Japan). This is where two or more different colored clay bodies are mixed together to give it a marble effect. Process involved: Colored pigments are mixed into clay slip & then dried until it’s a workable state. The colored clay is then wedged together with the non-colored clay body. Amounts of each clay vary to the whim of the creation; making each vessel a truly one-of-a-kind piece of ceramic art. It is then thrown on the potter’s wheel & through the throwing process, the colors swirl together to create the wonderfully random & unique marble effect. The piece is sanded at each step of the pottery-making process (bone dry, bisque-fired, glazed-fire). The entire piece is glazed in a clear satin matte (lead-free). Each piece might vary slightly in dimensions & color due to the technique used to create it & they all might have slight imperfections. This is what differentiate hand thrown from factory production. The potter’s mark appears near or on the base of the planter. Recommend washing by hand (if needed).
