The Purple Columbine is a lovely small Columbine for cottage gardens. Growing to less than a foot tall, usually 8-10, this charming species is one of the best for part shade borders. in spring, huge flower heads with dozens of small, nodding flowers emerge, blooming throughout spring & into early summer. When out of bloom, this species produces attractive blue-green foliar clumps about 5 tall. This plant thrives in average garden conditions, & is an excellent plant to attract bees & hummingbirds. USDA zones 3-9. 30 seeds per packet. Growing instructions: For all climates: sowing in pots is best. in early spring (or winter in very mild climates) after the danger of frost has passed, gently press the seeds into a moist (not wet) seed starter mix. Do not push the seeds too deep, as that reduces the chances of germination. Keep them evenly, but not excessively, moist. Keep them between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit during this stage, & ensure that they receive bright, but not direct, lighting. Between 2 weeks & a month later, the seeds will germinate. After germination, they can handle more variable temperatures, but keep them safe from frost until they are sizable plants. Once the seedlings are about 2 in height, they may be transplanted into the garden in their permanent location. Take care not to disturb the sensitive roots during transplanting. BAIT FOR SLUGS! After planting, keep them consistently moist year-round, & they should bloom within 1 year. About Kachwee Seeds: Kachwee Seeds is a cottage garden situated on a half-acre in Sacramento, California.
