Awesome giant tin of bulk tea from a turn of the century grocery store! This container is made out of tin plates which were soldered together & then covered with a paper lithograph depicting Japanese women in traditional dress picking tea leaves at a farm underneath the shadow of Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji itself is depicted in a separate paper lithograph attached to the inside of the lid. The front of the container has a sticker attached from Lee & Cady, who was a grocer & major food wholesaler in Detroit, Michigan from the 1800s to the early 1900s. The label states that this container holds 90 pounds of tea. This container would have been displayed right in the store, & customers would scoop out their tea & then pay for it by weight. The solder holding the bottom plate onto the container has been starting to fail, & someone used what looks like masking tape around the bottom edge of the container to keep the bottom connected. There is also some water damage on the paper lithograph, as well as some parts of the paper torn off. Overall pretty good shape for its age.
