Wonky Weaver Sunny dye is derived from the botanical, Tagetes erecta (Marigold). This can be used to produce bright/vivid yellows, & yellowy colour shades. Dye modifiers can result in many other unexpected colour shades. It is always recommended to first wash the fabric prior to dyeing, & when using cotton, an aluminium (Alum or Aluminium acetate) based mordant generally results in better dyeing effectiveness. Natural plant dyes are also perfect for naturally colouring hand-made soaps & candles. Infuse the dye powder in oil or wax, before adding to your soap or candle recipe. Using plant dyes is very enjoyable & satisfying but does require some degree of experimentation to get the desired coloration of your fibres, yarns & fabrics. Results also depend on the type, weight & make-up of the fibre, & water quality, temperature & length of time in the dye bath amongst many other factors. The type of mordants, dye assists & modifiers will also affect the resultant colour of your dyed materials. Our dyes are supplied in 50g resealable pouches.
