Magnolia champaca is a tree in the Magnoliaceae family. The tree is native to South Asia, Southeast AsiaIndochina, & southern China. Common names include Fragrant Himalayan Magnolia, Joy Perfume Tree, & Yellow Jade Orchid Tree. Known for its fragrant flowers, its timber, & its religious meanings. Found in Tropical & subtropical ecoregions in elevations of 200-1,600 meters. in its native ranges, it can grow to 160 feet tall with a trunk size of over 6 feet in diameter. They are most commonly seen growing around 20 feet in the States. The very strong fragrant flowers come out in June & waft the area until September. Flowers are used for worship in India & also for perfume reasons. Girls wear the flowers in their hair for a beautiful perfume scent. The furniture made with it has a dark brown & olive color to the wood. It prefers to grow in full sun to partial shade. Zones 10-11 Germination Plant the seeds, just barely covered, in acidic potting soil & spray to keep the soil constantly moist. Keep them covered with plastic wrap to increase humidity.
