Lonicera xylosteum is a deciduous perennial shrub in the Caprifoliaceae family. Some common names include fly honeysuckle, European fly honeysuckle, dwarf honeysuckle, & fly woodbine. A native to Europe, Caucasus, Siberia, & China. Keep this one in a container if in the Northwest. It can be used for a hedge in colder regions. It can grow to 10 feet tall & 12 feet wide. The blooms are yellowish-white in color, coming out from May to June. It gets plenty of insect actions as well as birds. It is deer & drought tolerant. Full sun is preferred but will benefit from some afternoon shade. Zones 4-6 Germination Mix seeds & moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost & cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light & keep moist.
