Lewisia brachycalyx is a deciduous Perennial in the Montiaceae family. It is also suitable for Alpine & rock gardens. The common names are short-sepal bitter-root or shortsepal lewisia. A native to the mountains of southwestern Baja California & the United States. It grows in moist habitats such as meadows & alongside streams. It produces a basal rosette that is fleshy with narrow leaves. The flowers are just over an inch tall but gathered together to form a cluster consisting of 5-10 pink/white small flowers. It is a hardy little guy withstanding temperatures of 14F. It does go dormant after flowering in the summer. It requires to grow in well-drained soil in full sun. Zones 6-9 Germination Mix seeds & moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost & cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light & keep moist. Seeds may germinate slowly.
