It is a great architectural plant for Mediterranean, Xerophytic or Coastal gardens, & can make an interesting addition for a conservatory or outside over summer in temperate dry gardens. Avoid Frost, it can supposedly survive down to -2C or so. It does well in a drier well drained sites in full sun in a display pot or at the middle to back a border or rockery, but is quite tolerant of other soil types & moisture providing it is well drained. Drought tolerant. Plants should be lifted & moved into a heated greenhouse/indoors if you live in a frost prone area. This is an evergreen, branching tree-like perennial succulent. It has articulated branches (constrictions that make them look like rows of sausages) & thick, stubby, elongated leaves which rest directly on the main stem or branch without a petiole or footstalk. The leaves grow clustered in crowded circles at the tops of the branches. The trunk is about 1m (3’) high, & the lanceolate leaves up to 12cm (5’’) long. Fragrant Grey White flowers appear at any time between March & October & are followed by fluffy Whitish seed heads. The plant is deciduous, the leaves falling at the beginning of the dry season.
