Himalayan Pink is a beautifully coloured form of halite (rock salt) mined in the Salt Range mountains of Punjab, Pakistan. Its unique pink hue is the result of trace minerals present in the crystals & can range from vaguely off-white to a vibrant coral colour. That mineral content also influences the intensity & character of the salty taste & we feel it provides a more mellow, complex profile than good old table salt. Himalayan Pink offers two things: colour & complexity. It dissolves quite quickly in contact with moisture so it doesn’t necessarily provide the textural crunch common with flaked sea salts. Often used as a finishing salt, if it’s the cool colour you’re interested in, be sure to add it to your dishes immediately before serving. As you might imagine, pink shows off wonderfully on light coloured foods such as scallops, but its complex flavour is the real winner here & can be used to add a bit of character to salads, dry rubs & marinades.
