As you may know, Giant Redwoods are the largest recorded trees in the world - up to 85 metres tall & 8 metres & they are also some of the oldest with many specimens being dated to well over 2,000 years old. Giant Redwoods can be successfully grown in most parts of the UK, making fine fast-growing feature trees. They are also very popular as container based bonsai specimens. Germination Guide Sow indoors at any time of the year Place seeds in a zip lock freezer bag & immerse in tap water Hang the bag up for 24 hours at room temperature Prepare a seed tray filled with moist (but not wet) seed compost, lightly firmed down Ideal mix is 50% potting compost & 50% vermiculite/perlite Space seeds out on surface of the seed compost Very gently pat the seeds down so they are in contact with the compost Cover with a thin layer of vermiculite or perlite Keep moist but not wet - best to water from the bottom by having seeds tray inside a waterproof container. Keep at room temperature in a bright place eg on window sill over a radiator Seedling should appear between 3 to 6 weeks Pot seedlings on once large enough to handle TOP TIP!
