Cordia sebestena Siricote or kopt in Mayan Scarlet Cordia A beautiful evergreen tropical grown for its tropical beauty. Green leaves accent orange - red flowers that bloom in clusters in the spring or summer. Perfect for growing as container plant for the deck or patio gardens. Cannot tolerate any frost or cold weather & must be grown as a tropical plant. Attractive to bees, butterflies & birds. The plant can grow to about 25 feet if grown as a standard but can be kept smaller as a container plant. Branches tend to droop on multi-trunked stems. If prunned to a single stem it will attain a larger more tree like appearance. Cordia sebestena is widely planted throughout the tropics as an ornamental plant in gardens for its showy flowers. It is a slow-growing plant making it a perfect specimen for bonsai culture. The tree should be pruned in its youth to establish strength & character. This plant tolerates salt spray found near the ocean. Likes full sun but will thrive in partly shaded areas.
