Wonky Weaver Walnut Brown dye is derived from the botanical, Juglans nigra (Black Walnut). This can be used to produce brown, & tan colour shades, & with natural tannin can also be used as an effective pre-mordant tannin bath for cellulose based fibres such as cotton. Dye modifiers can result in many other unexpected colour shades. It is always recommended to first wash the fabric prior to dyeing, & when using cotton, an aluminium (Alum or Aluminium acetate) based mordant generally results in better dyeing effectiveness. Natural plant dyes are also perfect for naturally colouring hand-made soaps & candles. Infuse the dye powder in oil or wax, before adding to your soap or candle recipe. Results also depend on the type, weight & make-up of the fibre, & water quality, temperature & length of time in the dye bath amongst many other factors.
