Description Bells of Ireland is a upright annual to 90cm tall, with bluntly toothed ovate leaves and, in late summer, long spikes of small, 2-lipped white or pale pink flowers, each held within a large, white-veined, pale green, bell-shaped calyx; good dried flower. It represents luck. The tiny white flowers are surrounded by apple green calyces which are persistent. The rounded leaves are pale green Sowing instruction Sow indoors in March - June Stratify the seeds for 5 days. Place the seeds in a moistened piece of kitchen roll & place in the fridge for 5 days. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed well drained seed compost in pots or trays. Cover the seed with a light sprinkling of compost, do not exclude light as this helps germination Keep at a temperature of around 15 to 20oC (59 to 68oF). After sowing, keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination can take between 21 to 35 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays & grow on.
