This listing is for a wonderfully rustic Small Antique Stoneware Ginger Jar which dates circa 1900. PLEASE NOTE: The price is for the jar only. The other items in my photos are for display only & are not included in the price. Chinese ginger jars were originally used to store food supplies like salt, herbs, oil & ginger which were all rare spices at the time. The jars acquired the name ginger jars because they often contained ginger when they were exported to the West. Since the 19th century they have mainly been used as decorative pieces. Made of stoneware this little jar does show age some age related wear as you would expect; marking, staining & crazing to the glaze from its years spent underground & several small nibbles to the top, body & base rim (shown in my photos) but it remains watertight. Please see my photos in close up for more details as they make up an important part of the description. It measures approximately 10 cm high x 10 cm at the widest point. The base diameter is 7 cm & the top opening is 4.5 cm & weighs approximately 255 gm. I love the colour & tactile feel of this beautiful jar & think it would look lovely on display either as ornament in its own right or used as vase or storage pot. It would make a perfect gift too. I ship within the UK & USA & always use a Tracked & Signed for service but if you would like a quote for shipping anywhere else then please do not hesitate to get in touch. I will happily combine postage where possible for multiple purchases & always refund shipping overages. Thank you for looking & happy shopping!
