Deer Medicine A4 Print Print taken from my original artwork ‘Deer Medicine’ Whilst living in Wales I felt drawn to understand more about our connection to the land through the power of stories & myth. I discovered that the Welsh story of the goddess Ceridwen & her cauldron of inspiration is based around Bala Lake (pictured) which I could see from my old house Elen of the ways the antlered deer goddess has strong links to Wales, recently I walked part of Sarn Helen one of her ancient trackways & on my daily dog walks I look across to the magical Berwyn mountain range (pictured) with it’s majestic waterfall Pistyll Rhaeadr where it’s said the gateway to Arthur’s ancient lands & the kingdom of the Celtic otherworld resides. Following Print out included : ~ Deer Medicine ~ This painting represents a journey into the myths & legends of the Celtic otherworld, in the Celtic world nothing is ever straight, journeys go one way & then the other gradually working towards the centre & then back again, I used the labyrinth motif to represent this journey, if you follow the pathway it may take you from the depths of space to the path of the Sun & Moon, through the ancient pinewoods to meet the ferry man with his boat ready & waiting to take you to the underworld, you may even discover Cerridwen’s cauldron of inspiration. The ancient deer goddess Elen of the Ways stands in the center to guide you on your journey.
