I have grown & harvested these rhizomes organically & sustainably. They will be clean & ready to plant upon receipt. Shampoo Ginger is a tropical plant that can be very invasive under ideal conditions. The flower is very fragrant & full of a slippery liquid nectar. The juice of the flower is great for hair & skin. TIPS FOR PLANTING I recommend soaking these in water for a few hours to stimulate sprouting. You should cover the rhizomes with 2 inches of soil. The soil should be well draining & kept moist but not soaked. They love heat & humidity. They don’t need full sun but the more sun they get, the bigger your flowers may be. They will need to be harvested & stored or brought inside during the winter if it gets below 50 degrees where you are. You can grow them in pots or plant them into the ground if it’s warm enough but be aware that if you live in a tropical environment, this plant will take over wherever you plant it. It’s an excellent ground cover that can be used as a chop & drop fertilizer or mulch like cover for the base of plants. They go dormant during the dry season so the leaves die back for a few months. When you receive your order, you can store them as dry rhizomes for a couple of weeks before planting. They will need to be kept in a dry, cool, well ventilated area to prevent molding. They take a little longer to sprout if the climate is dry & cool so extra light, heat & patience may be required to get them to sprout. It’s good to let the soil dry out especially if you haven’t seen sprouts. They do not need regular watering until you see leaves. Oxygen needs to be able to penetrate the soil. It will not hurt the rhizomes if you dig them up to check if they’re sprouting or not. It might be worth doing to make sure they’re still hard & not mushy/rotten. I suggest searching YouTube for videos that go more into detail. You can also research how you should care for them according to your USDA growing zone by searching online. I hope you have success with them! 4 Organic Shampoo Awapuhi Ginger Rhizomes
