Here is another hard plastic compact from the 1940s. This one is listed in the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Compacts. It has no makers name (see condition report though). The plastic is a transparent orange/amber colour. The lid is moulded with a floral sunburst design. It is quite large at 4 inches (10cm) diameter & about 3/4 inch (2cm) thick at its thickest point as it is slightly domed front & back. It has a mirror in the lid, its mesh guard & powder puff. It also has a blue & silver foil label on the mirror that says sterling silver catches. The catch is slightly protruding & you depress it with one finger & there is a groove on the base next to it which you hold with your other finger to open it. You can just make out the faint Sterling written on the underside of the lid catch. The compact is in excellent condition. There are minimal marks or scratches on the exterior. The clasp is strong & works well. The silvering on the mirror is a bit foxed in places but still very usable. I cannot tell if the mesh guard & powder puff are original to the compact. They fit. The mesh guard looks clean & unused but this compact does appear to have been used even if minimally. The powder puff has a hole on the centre top side (does not affect the usable side) & this looks like it was attached to something (a display card?). The powder puff has Ton-Ton written on it. Is this just the puff or is this original to the compact & the brand of the compact itself? I am leaning towards this being the brand of the compact, but there is nothing definitive to say so & the one listed in the encyclopedia is not branded.
