A Night of Swing at The Runner Bar

A Night of Swing at The Runner Bar

On the evening of 20th April (7pm to 9pm), as a precursor to our St George's Day celebrations, the clock goes back to the 1920's and 30's courtesy of Alex Mendham and his Orchestra, a time machine orchestra featuring 11 of the country's finest musicians who'll be heating things up for your listening pleasure at Green's Runner bar.

A little about Alex

Alex Mendham is a musician, band leader, producer, musical historian, and archivist of scores, arrangements and memorabilia from the 1920's and 30's.

His meticulous attention to detail and thorough understanding of the idiom has lead to his collaboration with some of the most recognised names in the music industry, including, most notably, a stint on Broadway with Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, provider of soundtracks to such period films as Martin Scorsese's The Aviator and most recently HBOs Boardwalk Empire.

In addition, he has taken private mentorship from Bob Wilber, world renowned saxophonist and clarinetist who played the role of musical director in Francis Ford Coppola's film The Cotton Club starring Richard Gere and Bob Hoskins.

Today Alex Mendham is to be found leading his 11 piece orchestra in and around London, authentically performing and preserving the jazz and society dance band music of the 1920s and early 30s.

The orchestra continues to enjoy success at many of London's prestigious venues ranging from the Pigalle Club on Piccadilly circus and Proud Camden to recently celebrating the new year at Wardour street's fashionable Floridita.
